Montreal, August 5, 2014 – The Réseau FADOQ is outraged by the 3.9% increase in electricity rates requested today from the Régie de l’énergie by Hydro-Quebec. This will be added to the increase of 4.3% already applied this April and will serve to further impoverish seniors. Effective April 1, 2015, this residential rate increase will represent approximately $90 more for a medium-sized house.
"Such an increase in the basic service prices is unacceptable because it negatively affects the quality of life of seniors. These successive increases also affect seniors’ ability to remain in their homes, which is the greatest wish of most seniors, and contradict government programs such as Vieillir et vivre ensemble, the objective of which is to provide support for aging at home," says Maurice Dupont, President of the Réseau FADOQ.
