Issues affecting people aged 50 and over took center stage during the election campaign. The 127 newly elected Members of the National Assembly will need to get to work quickly to help build a society that is more inclusive, supportive, and adapted to the realities of today and tomorrow.
Voters have placed their trust in the Parti Québécois. As the largest organization representing people aged 50 and over in Quebec, FADOQ extended its congratulations to Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, while reminding him of the commitments his party made to older adults.
Among the commitments that stood out are:
“FADOQ will regularly engage with the Government of Quebec to ensure these commitments are fulfilled, while also encouraging it to go further in meeting the needs of people aged 50 and over and promoting active and dignified aging,” said Yves Bouchard, President of FADOQ.
Even before the election campaign began, FADOQ outlined its priorities through its electoral platform (only in french). It presented concrete solutions focused on access to health care and social services, a priority issue for society as a whole, active aging, the conditions needed to allow older adults to remain in their homes, and financial support for people aged 50 and over.
“Population aging, the transformation of the health-care system, and the rising cost of living require concrete and rapid action within the first months of this new mandate,” added Mr. Bouchard.
Quebecers elected a minority government. For FADOQ, this reality reinforces the importance of dialogue and collaboration among the different political parties to advance the issues that matter most to older adults.
In closing, FADOQ would like to congratulate everyone who ran for office in this election and thank all those who worked at polling stations to make this democratic exercise possible.
